So I hopped on a bus 24X and after that a bus 20 and got myself to this little town... hehe... so early that no one i knew was awake yet.<br /><br />On the bus 20, I was fortunate enough to meet Sherry, a 65 year old great grandmother... a painter of 53 years...wah. Even though she is old enough to be my grandmother, you can still feel this "fire" her eyes, especially when we talked about painting and the -isms in painting. Be it oil, acrylic, watercolor, color pencil or graphite... this woman has tried everything in my limited art vocab... haha...<br /><br />It's kinda of nice to know someone who is interested in the arts and loves what she does. Some particular points she talked about really intrigued me...<br /><br />"I've thrown all my painting equipment away so many times, and started all over again... because I cannot live without painting."<br /><br />"I done all my responsibilities as a wife, but I know I was never a good wife because of painting. That's why I cannot stay married."<br /><br />"You are as young as what you think you are."<br /><br />"Find a good job and paint whenever you can. For all you know, you will become an artist next time."<br /><br />"We are all learning no matter how old we are. I am still learning today."<br /><br />Sherry pointed out all the places I should go in Carpinteria ("this is a sleepy town"), the State beach and also the bluffs at the hotdog stand. Today is 14 September 06, Thursday. Approximately 5 days since I left home for SEP in Santa Barbara. Good life? U bet! Well, you have a shorter school term and SU option is a big bonus. Hopefully I can start thinking about learning instead of getting good grades.<br /><br />I have been thinking of this for a long time... why am I here. I remember while I was in Changi Airport with Aaron, I was thinking... What the shit am I getting myself into? Leaving home for some unknown place... away from the security of friends and family and esp Rebecca... ! For all you know, I will not like the place that I will be going to. Almost akin to jumping into the sea without a life jacket.<br /><br />So NW6 came and flew me to Narita at 6am in the morning September 11... haha... you must be thinking why am I flying on such an "auspicious" day. But well, I was thinking I will have a whole row of seats to myself, but sigh, the plane was full. Same thing from Narita to LAX on NW2... full plane.<br /><br />Throughout the flights, I have been mistaken as a Japanese... sigh... we poor Singaporeans never get recognized on flights... we should work on our distinct identity... haha. Being spoken to in Japanese and also handed Japanese I-94 forms... LoL.<br /><br />Okie, whatever, I fell asleep numerous times on the plane, after Mission Impossible 3 and Over the Hedge, I landed in LAX. Wah, Ok, I dunno where to go, but i know I am suppose to catch a shuttle to Santa Barbara... Blur me went all around the complex, not knowing where to take the bus. The clock is ticking and phew, by 10.20am, i got to the bus stand... yeahhhhhhhhh! The bus was late... good thing, though i nearly thought i missed the bus.
