Carpinteria

Alone is sometimes good... except when u need someone to take photos of u...

Today, I finally got the chance to get out of town to Carpinteria... the little town which I have always wanted to visit, but never got a chance to, at least for the last 2 weeks. So I hopped on a bus 24X and after that a bus 20 and got myself to this little town... hehe... so early that no one i knew was awake yet.

On the bus 20, I was fortunate enough to meet Sherry, a 65 year old great grandmother... a painter of 53 years...wah. Even though she is old enough to be my grandmother, you can still feel this "fire" her eyes, especially when we talked about painting and the -isms in painting. Be it oil, acrylic, watercolor, color pencil or graphite... this woman has tried everything in my limited art vocab... haha...

It's kinda of nice to know someone who is interested in the arts and loves what she does. Some particular points she talked about really intrigued me...

"I've thrown all my painting equipment away so many times, and started all over again... because I cannot live without painting."

"I done all my responsibilities as a wife, but I know I was never a good wife because of painting. That's why I cannot stay married."

"You are as young as what you think you are."

"Find a good job and paint whenever you can. For all you know, you will become an artist next time."

"We are all learning no matter how old we are. I am still learning today."

Sherry pointed out all the places I should go in Carpinteria ("this is a sleepy town"), the State beach and also the bluffs at the hotdog stand. Without her, I dun think I will ever find the place to take such stunning landscapes... something that I've never seen here yet.

The standard "where did I go?" photo...
